Real Lemon on a Nice Plate
oil on gessoed board
155 x 205mm
by Paul Hutchinson
NZ$400

A friend gave me some lemons from her tree.
I think she was a bit put out that I decided to paint what was probably the worst pick of the bunch!
Literally the "real lemon" .
Or is that metaphorically the real lemon...?
Anyhoo, I painted it because I found it interesting. I was fascinated by the spiral shape in towards the stem.
I guess its blighted quality is emphasised by the fact that I chose to present it on a "nice plate".
