I was looking up Encaustic art on the internet and was thrilled to see my favourite Tart artist with some examples. It's entriguing and inviting. Reminiscent of melting crayon pics as a kid.
I admire your work Paul. It's a good reminder that the simplest of subjects sometimes makes the best artwork. I adored your 'pears and bottles' painting from the first time I laid eyes on it, in Opunake, at the Taranaki art review a few years ago.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Paul,
Beautiful work! I love how you see things. I've been doing graphite portraits for a number of years now, but have yet to take on painting...although after seeing your work, I feel inspired. I stumbled upon your site after googling *flossing teeth* (haha...I must be the flossing queen of Canada!) I LOVE your self portrait of flossing your teeth! With your permission, I'd love to post it on my site (launch date set for 01 April) with my pages on 'oral hygiene' (wow, I sound like a lot of fun, eh?!)...I know the members will love it too. (A brief synopsis of my site, fyi: A members-only site for women, candidly dealing with any and all women's issues from health to humour to sexuality to business...plus we're working on implementing a community outreach program for single mums and abused women. We're based out of Winnipeg Canada.)
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I hope it finds you happy and healthy.
Sincere regards,
Audrey E, Canada

What a treat to visit your site. I enjoy your candid portraits, your nudes, in fact i enjoyed it all. What is it about Taranaki that attracts such good artists? Is it that Mountain? Taranaki is such a handsome fellow.
Or is it the stark contrast of the coast against the rural undulating green farmlands. The winds perhaps?
whatever it is I love it - the Tartists are great. I esteem your work, the work of many of your fellow tartists and your beautiful region.

Interesting work, Paul. I like the varied concepts & subject matter you are portraying. I would like to view your work "in the flesh" as I.T. does not do it justice. Maybe I'll get over to Taranaki one day.
Thanks.

I love your still-life work for the uncomplicated manner by which it reminds ex-patriates abroad of home.
It evokes a complicity that is uniquely New Zealand-like without a girl feeling she's needs to explain what it is she's enjoying. For me personally, like many other New Zealanders living abroad, it's the familiarity ... ordinary, everyday vegetables, pegs, hills and mountains ... which bring to mind extraordinary membrances of our homeland. Thank you.

Hey Guys (and guyesses)
I've just visited your site (yet again) to show it off to a friend (we've just been to a Dick Frizzell opening) and felt a pang of nostelgia for 'home' because of the memories that your ART has bought back to me. I love it and I still love what you're doing and I'm glad that even though some of us (me) have lost our art focus, some of us (you) keep it going and honest and real AND accessable. Thankyou!!!
It's like being able to visit home from where ever one is.

I donīt think this art is really very good , why donīt you paint the mountains or lakes or rivers of the world. No offence intended but your not the most appealing subject to paint just as I am not a Potato. Good luck though the world needs art freaks I guess for something, I have no idea what though.

Was happy to find yours & other sites from home on the net. Liked the scapes & photos of the mountain & seascapes.
IDEA!?! Go to Waitara lookout @ MANUKORIHI for a good shot of mountain with the valley as a foreground, or other good ideas. Cheers & keep up the WORK.

I found your site searching for info about encaustic painting - and found much more. Beautiful work.
A question - is damar resin the same thing as the crystals used to make damar varnish?

Great website, such diversity & both of you use such interesting techniques. I am a huge fan of 'Big Game'& had the pleasure of seeing it first hand at the 'Like minds like mine' exhibition. I am an artist who has just moved to New Plymouth with my family & was very fortunate to have one of my own works included in that exhibition. I felt especially honoured when I saw so many exciting pieces such as your own.
Great work.

From time to time I log onto your Website to enjoy your great and incredible art pieces for both enjoyment and inspiration. I draw/paint in pastel, watercolor and oils with emphasis on portraiture and teach in all media. Have gifted students as young as 6 and and as old as 70-something. Am giving them your Website address so they, too, can log onto your site from time to time.
Two years ago we hosted a young man from North Island NZ and this prompted me to check into your site when I found it listed. You may be quite a way 'down under' from my location in Central California, USA, but you are really 'Way up There' in fabulous art pieces.

How do you explain to people the ritual of purchasing a house and then moving it to where you want to live? Although it is done in the states it is not at all common. Your pictures are wonderful.

I'm a bit of a painter, trying to get into web site creation/design after a lifetime of computer work. I love the paintings, especially the garden. The assemblies I think need to be looked at in 'real life' to be appreciated but they do look intrieging. Maybr I'll see some of your works when in NZ next december:hope so. Keep up the good work!
